I think when people have the freedom to tell their own story rather than trying to be specific to a certain design or style, there’s more freedom, and it ends up feeling more like home. Those spaces we see in magazines and on the Internet are beautiful, but if there’s not that story there, then it’s going to lack that feeling of home. Joanna Gaines
When it comes to designing a space and figuring out where/how to get started, I love to start at the very beginning. For me, it’s where to draw inspiration from and planning out the function of what the space will serve our family as.
My go to places to find inspo is Pinterest, books/magazines both new and old (I’ll share my favorites here) and if I’m really in a design pickle (such as not being able to find anything similar to what I’m looking for. This happens way too often) I’ll start rough sketching (and I mean rough) until I get close to what I’m trying to create.
A quick rule of thumb I like to stick to is not being afraid to look for inspiration in odd places. What are some examples of odd places you ask ? If you’re planning on incorporating plants\Stems\Florals in your design, walking through nurseries, nature, or those totally overstuffed stem aisles in Michaels can be a great place to start.
There’s an entire world out there containing all of the things we love and things we haven’t yet discovered
